Tim Walker

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

When stumbling through my daily blogroll on www.bloglovin.com today, I came across a post by Fashionologie on the genius work of Tim Walker. I have long admired his eye for fashion photography and the whimsy of his beautiful work. His images remind me of the childhood I would have loved to have, full of fairy godmothers, castles made of pastel colored candy, and unicorns that wisked you away to meet prince charming. Walker’s work is very uplifting and inspirational and so I wanted to share!

Apologies

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I am really trying to get this blog off the ground, and hoping to debut my portfolio website sometime before the end of the month. Unfortunately life always seems to get in the way, and the past few days I’ve been running too late to take an outfit picture, or had an interruption in my schedule.

Earlier this week I became a victim to the urban underbelly that we all sometimes overlook. There was a burglary in my apartment and my beloved computer is no longer in my possession. Thus, I am asking for your patience while I work out the paperwork and order a new computer. Regular posts will resume shortly, I promise.

Thank you!

What I Wore

What I Wore

There are more than
enough good ideas to go around. This (especially) includes fashion and
fashion blogging. Share and inspire! True!

Not every trend looks good on every body. This includes, but is not limited to crop tops, hot pants and skinny jeans. True!

”_______” is the new black. False. There is only one black, there
will only ever be one black. Magenta, brown, yellow, pink, green. None
of these are black. There is only one black.

What are your TT&L?

Jessica started this great discussion and I really wanted to continue it, so here we go.

My Two truths and a Lie:

*Accessories can make or break an outfit. They also can easily transition an outfit from day to night. I am guilty of not honoring my personal bevy of accessories and sometimes leave a dress or shirt bare when it really needs a little more sparkle. This is one thing I am trying to work on.

*Natural hair and makeup look good in any occasion. My goal is to always look a little overdressed (you never can be OVER dressed) but also look like I didn’t try too hard. Natural grace, pose, and elegance are hard to capture, but this is a simply rule that any classic style icon would have obeyed.

*Only buy something if you can see yourself wearing it right then and there. I think this is too strong a rule to follow. If you come across a scarf, belt, shirt, dress, etc. That the cut, fabric, or color is just too irresistible to pass up… go ahead and buy it. Some items may not fit into your wardrobe immediately as is, you may have to do a little DIY, or even shop around for more pieces to help transition the “must have” in. But if you see something that is a little far out, and feel you NEED to have it, I think it’s okay to give in once and a while and invest in a piece that may not work now, but could work in the future. A wardrobe is a living, breathing thing; it’s organic in the way it functions, and you have to be flexible.

Eye Candy

Nomenus Quarterly, the “World’s Most Expensive Magazine” according to the New York Times, is positioning itself at an even higher level of elitism.

Editor In Chief and Founder, Erik Madigan Heck, has cut back the print run by 80%, releasing only 10 issues at an elevated price of $6,500 per book. The magazine is a collaboration of previously unpublished works by an array of renowned artists and designers from a multitude of disciplines. The most recent issue features ubiquitous artists like Ann Demeulemeester, Katie Paterson, and Dries Van Noten.

I think Heck is making the right move here, keeping the idea of a luxury brand alive in a failing economy; by reducing access and increasing cost the item becomes even more desirable and elite. The images are so captivating and the idea is so ingenious that I applaud young Heck’s entrepreneurial venture.  I am personally, very interested to see how different luxury brands position themselves in the coming months to survive in these struggling times.

Luckily for us bourgeois who can’t shell out $7K for a magazine, the publication is available online for free. So view away my friends! http://www.nomenusquarterly.com/

Fashion Swoon

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Only the best of fashion royal elite have been asked to design lines for H+M. On the heels of the likes of Commes des Garcons and Matthew Williamson, it has been announced that swoon worthy accessory label Jimmy Choo is next in line.

“We are privileged to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M so far, and to be designing a collection appealing to fashion savvy, street smart women, and to be including some great pieces for men, too. Jimmy Choo will bring to H&M a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection – the perfect party pieces to buy now and then wear out that night!” Tamara Mellon, Founder and President, Jimmy Choo.*

I think fashionistas all over the world are gearing up for the chaos that will ensue when this line is released on November 14th. (Does anyone remember the stampede at the 5th Avenue Flagship store for Commes des Garcons?)

I think these pieces will really be more of a collectors item than fashion statements you will see on the streets, but it’s still exciting nonetheless. Perhaps designers will see how successful this program has been for H+M and implement lower price points into their own lines? Hey, a girl can dream can’t she?

2009 CFDA Fashions

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

The 2009 Annual CFDA Awards were last night, and even though the list of winners (see below) did not disappoint, my favorite part had to be the red carpet.

This year was full of individual style. Everyone looked absolutely perfect for the occasion, but no one looked the same. Bright colors, metallics, and body conscious silhouettes conquered the evening, but each in their own spectacular way.

Click on the images above to see my comments on each of my favorite girls of the evening!

I am so happy with this year’s winners. I really think the CFDA board (we all know who that is) really understands the pulse of society today. With the economy struggling and the public re-prioritizing how they spend their earnings, the luxury business, the arts, and fashion have to follow suit. Fashion is a reflection of the times after all. I truly believe these designers understand that, and I see really great things coming from this group of leaders in the future. Can’t wait for Fall Fashion Week!

I love Fashion Toast. She has a very relaxed and casual style, but always seems to dress it up enough so that it’s edgy and interesting. She just wearing cut-off jeans and a white tank top, but its so chic! Anyways I love this look she posted today. I especially LOVE that ring, but she didn’t credit it on the blog (so sad) Anyone know of places that sell rings like this?
