Tut, Tut, Looks Like Rain!

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 31, 2009

When:
July 31, 2009

What:
Trench Coat: Jones New York
Umbrella: Street Vendor
Jeans: Forever 21
Rain Boots: JCrew, Gift

Where:
Work

Why:

The forecast is rain; all day. So I thought, why not do an outerwear post today? In New York, especially in the winter, your jacket or coat is just as important as your outfit. Many more people see you in your coat, and they see that coat every day all season long.

I grabbed this metallic navy trench at the beginning of spring. I liked the color and the classic cut, as well as the hem line. Most of my trench-coats are longer and past the knee (best for snow and fall downpours), this length is perfect for spring and summer showers.

The boots were a gift I received upon my High School graduation. They are covered with bees (the mascot of my Alma Mater), and I think the bright color and youthful look really brighten up a rainy day. I don’t have an exciting umbrella, just a sturdy one. You go through so many umbrella’s in New York, leaving them places, breaking them, etc. that I have yet to invest in a “pretty” one. Either way, I’m happy to be staying dry today, and looking cute at the same time!

Happy Friday!

Weardrobe Tumblr

Friday, July 31st, 2009

So I was going through my morning blogroll, Style Caster, Weardrobe, Lookbook.nu, and finally weather.com when I suddenly stopped. Scrolling through the Weardrobe Tumblog, looking at all the beautiful outfits posted by members the day before, I stumbled upon my very own mug… err back. It’s an honor to be among the beautiful outfits highlighted on the Weardrobe blog, so thank you very much Rich, Suz, and Jessica!

It was a great way to start the morning, and definitely put a little pep in my step as I pulled on my rainboots! If you’re not using Weardrobe yet, I highly recommend you give it a try. It’s full of tons of inspiration, and is very helpful for those mornings you have no clue what to wear. Also, if you like my dress, check out Market Publique for great vintage finds in a variety of sizes at terrific prices!

Sometimes a Dress is Best

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 30, 2009

When:
July 30, 2009

What:
Dress: Market Publique
Belt: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Anne Klein
St. Croix’s Hook Bracelet: Gift
“L” Necklace: Ross + Simons , gift
Turquoise Ring: Keller’s Flea Market in Savannah, Ga

Where:
Work

Why:
Last night, after some post-work day socializing in the office, a few of my co-workers and I decided to hit up Fat Cat’s in the West Village for some ping pong and shuffleboard.  Needless to say it was a long night, and I did not feel like even looking at my closet this morning.

I’ve worn this dress a few times, to a Weardrobe/Market Publique event, a friend’s post-wedding BBQ and a birthday party last weekend, but I’ve never taken an outfit photo of it. This morning, the simplicity of just throwing on a dress seemed divine and the colors just make me happy.

While running out of the house, I grabbed a cute little bolero cardigan to wear around the office. It looks so cute, but I didn’t have time to snap another photo, so come back later and I’ll post one tonight.

Happy Thursday! The weekend is almost here!

The Feel of Cotton

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 29, 2009

When:
July 29, 2009

What:
Chiffon and Jersey Tank: Silence and Noise
Cardigan: Zara
Jeans: Forever 21
Athletic Shelf Bra: Hanes
“L” Necklace: Ross + Simons , gift
Shoes: Nine West

Where:
Work

Why:
It is hot and humid today. One of those days where you can’t bear wearing rayon, polyester, or any kind of fabric with the word “blend” in it. So I went with cotton, and lots of it. A dressy jersey racer-back, an easy breathing shelf bra, and loose boot-cut jeans, what more could you want? I threw on the cardi to cover up some skin and to protect from the AC, but outside and on the train I did not need it.

Don’t know what, or even if, I am doing anything tonight, but I figured this would be versatile enough. Keeping it casual and playing it easy this week. July is just too hot to pile on fancy things.

Cool Blue

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 28, 2009

When:
July 28, 2009

What:

Tunic: Zara
Tank: H&M
Jeans: BDG/Urban Outfitters
Gold Chain Necklace: Vintage, Mom’s
Gold and Tortoise Shell Necklace: ? (wish I could remember)
Ring: off the street in SoHo
Shoes: Nina, from LES clothing swap
Shades: Free People
Bag: Sabina

Where:
Work

Why:
I usually wear this tunic as a dress. It came with big slits up the sides that I sewed shut. I like to belt it, or just wear with leggings or opaque tights. But today all these pieces sort of just jumped out at me. I punked it out with sunglasses, chunky jewelery, my favorite booties, and my go-to bag.

I saw a woman on the train this morning, wearing a shearling parka. A full on parka! With a hood! Do people not realized its in the mid-80’s and humid in New York? Everyone have been pulling out cardigans and boots (me too… guilty as charged), but I just don’t think I’m ready to let go of summer yet.

Sunday Brunch and Bike Ride

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 26, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 26, 2009

When:
July 26, 2009

What:

Green Tank Top / Tunic: H&M
Black Athletic Shirt: Hanes
Jorts: Rock & Republic (DIY-ed!)
Belt: H&M
Shoes: Sperry Topsider Boat Shoes
Necklace: Cross from Sacre Coeur in Paris
Sunnies: Urban Outfitters
Bag: Thirfted Sabina

Where:
Brunch at Cafe Orlin in the East Village and Bike Riding on Governor’s Island

Why:
My dilemma, I almost always want to wear a cute little sundress to Sunday brunch (who doesnt?), but I was headed off to a biking date later in the afternoon and needed to dress appropriately for both activities.

This is my result, and I am pretty happy with it. I threw together some casual pieces, some athletic pieces, and a touch of preppy with the TopSider shoes. I felt comfortable enough while bike riding in the hot afternoon, but didn’t feel very out of place at brunch either. It was a great day for date with the boy, who snuck his big feet in and got his Rainbow sandals in my shoe detail shot! Enjoy!

Rock Out

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 23, 3009

Daily Outfit: July 23, 2009

When:
July 23, 2009

What:

Dress: Gift from mom
Stack of silver bracelets: various street vendors and cheap accessory stores
Shoes: Anne Klein

Where:
Work and After-Work Cocktails with BF’s Co-Workers

Why:
I had a 9am meeting this morning, so I had to get up super early to get to work and prep (it was fully catered). I didn’t have much time, so a dress was perfect to throw on, and I think this will translate well for later tonight… that is, if I go. Didn’t get much sleep last night, couldn’t keep my eyes closed long enough, so I may just crash after work and go home to put on some pjs and crawl into bed. We shall see. Anyways this is me, in a furry, rocking out in my stairwell, with wet hair. Happy Thursday!

Child’s Play

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 22, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 22, 2009

When:
July 22, 2009

What:

Shirt: Express
Shorts: Old Navy
Cardigan: Zara
Belt: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: made by my friend Zach Fields
Bracelet: off the street in SoHo
Shoes: Go Jane

Where:
Work

Why:
When the sun comes out after the rain it just makes you want to run out and play. So I did. I took photos outside! I jumped and played around in the lot behind my building, which is over-run with these thigh-high plants and piles of bricks, typical Brooklyn I guess.

I let my hair go wild and curly (as you can plainly see) and worked a new pair of shorts (I never wear shorts) into and office-appropriate outfit. Well, it’s at least appropriate for my office; a very casual, tee-shirt and jeans type of environment. I added the cardigan, 1) for color since I never wear any, and 2) for warmth since I’ll be in A/C all day.

Happy Wednesday!

Daily Outfit: July 21, 2009

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Daily Outfit: July 21, 2009

accessories

When:
July 21, 2009

What:

Shirt: Tissue T by JCrew (on sale! go now!)
Khaki Skirt: Anthropologie (from High School)
Scarf: Urban Outfitters
Belt: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: Ross + Simons gift
Ring: Gift
Shoes: Vintage Burberry Loafer Heels

Where:
Work

Why:
I sort of feel like I’m channeling Shelley Long from Troop Beverly Hills. I bought this skirt way back in High School in a larger size because I wore it slung really low on my hip bone (I don’t know, I guess I thought I looked cute). I’m aware this is monotonous and boring, but white and khaki looked really comfortable this morning.

I was looking forward to taking pictures outside (for once) but woke up to a torrential downpour instead. So I made do by posing in my white and cream kitchen! How fitting for my color scheme?

I fancied up a simple tee and khaki look with a understated diamond necklace (”L” for Lizzie!) and silk scarf. Oh, and I love these shoes so much! I kinda feel like a secretary or librarian every time I wear them. None the less, here is my rainy Tuesday!
