When:
November 11, 2009

What
Jeans: Heritage 1981
Blouse: Express
Cardigan: JCrew
Necklace: F21
Scarf: F21
Shoes: Payless

Where:

Work

Why:

I didn’t take very many photos this morning, and so I apologize for the minimal sub-par selection. It was very cold this morning and threatened to drizzle. Most of the pictures are of me making faces and shivering.

I went for color this morning, and layers. I know I’ve been doing jeans a lot lately, (and then not taking photos on the days I wear dresses), but it’s so hard when it’s cold out and you’re tired. Again, I need some inspiration people!

This particular look sort of just came to me, but on my subway ride into work I realized it is slightly reminiscent of JCrew’s most recent catalog… layering colorful cardigans and bright jewels over business casual looks.

Today wasn’t much of anything special, just another Wednesday. But, I have so many exciting things happening this weekend, I just want the week to end NOW so I can get out and see my friends, enjoy a few birthdays, and actually go on a date with my boyfriend. I’ll keep you posted, and take better pictures!

The Long and Straight of It

When:
November 10, 2009

What
Jeans: Heritage 1981
Tee: Hanes
Grey Cardigan: Zara
Navy Blazer: Calvin Klein, thrifted
Boots: Steve Madden
Necklace: F21

Where:

Work

Why:

I was playing around with layers this morning since the weather has warmed up recently. There’s really no need for a heavy coat outside, so I layered a cardigan with a blazer and my staple jeans and boots.

If I look angry in some of the pictures, it’s probably because I was making faces at my boyfriend, confused about some of the angles and ways he was taking photos. My apologies… I’m usually cranky and in a hurry in the morning, no time dilly-dallying!

I also straightened my hair today for the first time in a looooooong time, and I cannot believe how much it has grown! In June, I had a short, sharp, cropped bob haircut. I went to see my stylist and complained I my hair never grew. Well, about five months later; after countless overnight scalp treatments, vitamins, and bad-curly-hair days in Summer humidity, my hair has grown and looks so healthy!

I got so frustrated blow-drying and straightening my hair this morning, I can’t believe I used to go through that routine every day for over 8 years. My hair is so thick and full of texture it makes it very difficult to get it right. My only hope is that as it grows, the length weighs down the unruly curls to create a more relaxed and wavy look. Anyone have good recommendations for thick and textured hair?

A Work In Progress

When:
November 6, 2009

What
Jeans: Uniglo
White Tank: Gap
Black Cardigan: Zara
Necklace: Market Publique
Boots: Steve Madden
Sunnies: ?

Where:

Work

Why:

I made it to the end of the week! Crazy, but I just wanted to run through Friday and get to the weekend as fast as I could.

October seemed to go so fast, but November is creeping and crawling by. I really, really, really want Thanksgiving to get here so I can go home to Boston.

I miss my family and I miss sleep, and I miss my regular blogging schedule. I promise to work on it.

Hey, this weekend I put in a few lovely tweaks for you guys! I know the font is still really small. Believe me, I am working on it.

I also have my amazing webmaster, graphic designer, heartthrob singing friend, Brandon Clark, working on it too. His band American Standard is trying to raise to money for their debut EP! (What’s a little shameless promotion for CSS help late on a Sunday night?)

So there you have it. Hope you all had amazing weekends! Keep me posted on anything awesome going on!

Inspiration Out The Window

Friday, November 6th, 2009

When:
November 5, 2009

What
Jeans: Heritage 1981
White Tee: Hanes
Over-sized Sweater: Old Navy
Necklaces: Vintage, Souvenir, and F21
Boots: Target
Sunnies: Urban Outfitters

Where:

Work, Meetings in NJ, and Another Late Night at the Office

Why:

With a 9am meeting, a trip to New Jersey, and running around Manahattan on a rather mild November day, I figured I would forgo any effort to be “stylish” and just go for the comfort factor.

This look has sort have been my “uniform” for the entirety of the week; simple tee, over-sized cardi, skinny jeans, boots. No thought needed, just pull it on and go.

To be honest I have been rather uninspired lately. I don’t have much time to read through all of my favorite blogs, flip through my magazines, shop online etc. And so I haven’t been thinking about the clothes I wear as much as I usually do. Add this to my lack of sleep and demanding new lifestyle… and I am just all sorts of mixed up and confused.

With no time to work out my problems with my wardrobe this week I just reached for simple items and then added professional and stylish accessories. My feet wont put up with heels all day, so I opted for cute boots (which got a complement from the sales girl at one of the leather stores I visited on thurs. and they’re not even leather!)

To be honest I was a little embarrassed at first, having my faux cheapo last season Target boots pointed out by a highend sales girl, and then I shurgged it off and decided to rock it. It doesn’t matter how much you pay for the clothes you wear, or where you got them… what matters is how you wear them.

Your attitude and the way you carry yourself can make or break an outfit. I feel confident at work, and thus I think these simple ensembles pass off as decent “business casual”, because that’s how I wear them.

I don’t know… what do you guys do when you’re lacking inspiration?

When:
November 3, 2009

What
Jeans: Lee
Ruffle Sweater: Gap
Wool Blazer: DKNY
Scarf: Thrifted
Belt: Urban Outfitters
Heels: Colin Stuart
Stockings: Betsy Johnson
Zipper Flats: Nine West

Where:

Work

Why:

My new job is a little bit lot more physically demanding than my old desk job. I spend most of the day on my feet running around. Needless to say, heels are not very practical.

To be honest, I miss my ridiculous heels and being able to wear them just because I sat behind a desk all day.

Now I can’t even bare the thought of standing in stilletos for the duration of my 10 hour work day. So, I decided to play around and take pictures with heels this morning (even if I didn’t wear them out of the house).

I scrunched thigh high tights down to ankle length to add some color and “warmth” for a chilly Fall day (I can’t believe it’s November already)!

While getting dressed, I liked the idea of this outfit, but I’m not sure the photos came out too good. The sun was so bright this morning, and I should have just grabbed a pair of sunnies instead of squinting… but what are you gunna do, right?

After I changed into flats I wanted to include a picture of my “real” outfit as well. Just something cozy and practical… not too amazing.

*I made my boyfriend watch Pippi Longstocking last week, and now he won’t stop singing the opening song. The only thing is he replaces the name “Pippi” with “Lizzie”. This morning when he saw me put on purple stockings with my peeptoes, he immediately broke out into song. Thus the title of this post.

What Goes Around Comes Around

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

I’m not one for “re-blogs” or “chain posts”, but Christen over at La Rue Neuve was so sweet and kind enough to share this award with me… I had to re-post.

I am really honored. It’s so sweet to hear all the feedback from family, friends, and strangers I have met by writing this blog. I appreciate all the kind words, constructive criticism, and love.

beautifulbloggeraward1

I gladly accept Christen’s nomination, and in the spirit of this award will share 7 (not so) interesting things about me:

1. I was a Fashion Design / Writing major in college. It’s the best way I could combine my artistic and intellectual minds and I am so glad I found such an amazing school to let me study and create the way I wanted to.

2. My “real” name is Lizzie Jeanne. I am named after my Great-Aunt Lizzie and my Grandmother Jeanne.

3. Before I graduated college I had interviewed Pierre Cardin, had my designs featured in the front windows Saks Fifth Avenue, and served as the Fashion Director of a magazine… and I’ve only just begun.

4. I only like drinks that come with straws. (Fruit garnish and cocktail umbrellas are a plus too!)

5. I went to an all-girl’s school for 7 years… and turned out fine (I think).

6. I am obsessed with reading “personal growth” books like The Secret, Basic Black, and What Would Jackie Do? (other titles are too embarrassing to publish here… email me for recommendations)

7. Oprah, Martha Stewart, and Anna Wintour are my heroes and I hope to be like them / work for them one day.

And here are my nominations:

Idee Geniale, Preppy With A Twist, Love Meagan, Peeptoes, Fashion Bananas The Art of Jordan , and Pamela

I had so much fun putting this post together! I hope you can tell I am laughing through this entire post… you can never take yourself too seriously you know!

Thank you Christen, and thank you too all of my favorite blogs for posting all the time!

I Wanna Be Your Dandelion

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

When:
October 30, 2009

What
Jeans: Uniglo
Orange Ruffle Blouse: H+M
Cardigan: Zara
Boots: Ralph Lauren
Sunnies: Urban Outfitters
Bracelets: Top Shop and Gift from Mom

Where:

Work and Meetings in NJ

Why:

I knew I was going to be running around. I knew I was going to be active and  on my feet for most of the day. I knew I was going to be making first impressions.

So, what do you wear?

Well I came up with this. The end of my second week on the new job definitely proved I have suffered some wear and tear.

But don’t worry, I used the Halloween week to regroup, buy some much needed winter flat boots, and organize my closet.

The only thing I didn’t find time to do…. laundry.

Anyways, i love this blouse, last seen here, because it reminds me of a Marc Jacobs shirt, but I got it at H&M! I love finding a good deal, or a stylish pieces for much less than expected… it’s probably my favorite thing in the world.

Halloween Weekend

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

When:
October 31, 2009

What
Grey Skinny Jeans: Heritage 1981
Green Bay Packers Henley: Gift
Green and Gold Bead Necklaces: Gift
Cardigan: JCrew
Green Ribbion (In Hair): Left Over from College Senior Collection
Boots: Target
Cheese Head Hat: Boyfriend’s

Where:

HALLOWEEN!

Why:

Alright, this outfit requires A LOT of explanation. So here goes:

First off, the boyfriend has profusely asked not to be featured on the blog, but we took a lot of great pictures together that I wanted to use.

Hence his face is replaced with that of Frankenstein… (no, there is not a physical resemblance between the two, I’m just trying to respect his wishes).

Second, the outfit was originally intended for SUNDAY November 1st for the big game (Packers vs Vikings). If you don’t know the deal with the rivalry, you can read about it here.

My boyfriend is from Green Bay and his family was so generous as to send me a shirt and necklaces to help show my Wisconsin pride for the game.

Well on Friday, I learned that I had to work on Sunday.

So I was a little bummed, thinking I was going to miss the game and the opportunity to dress up.

Then on Saturday, over dinner (literally an hour before we went out), I looked at Jake and said… we should just wear the Packers gear tonight! And so I invented the best last-minute Halloween costumes ever.

I threw on a cardigan to keep warm, and a bow to decorate my hair. Jake threw on his cheese head, and we were ready to party.

I’m killing so many proverbial birds with this one outfit; I support the Packers, I rock all the awesome fan gear (thank you!), and we had a great “couples” Halloween costume that got hoots and hollers on the street from fans of both teams.

I declare that a win, if I do say so myself.

Long story short, I didn’t have to work too late on Sunday and I was able to meet up with Jake and a friend of his from High School at Kettle of Fish for the second half of the game. The Packers lost, but we still had fun… and met a ton of friendly Wisconsinites!
