Have A Round On Me: Fashion Hodge Podge

I have been sifting through all my bookmarked websites to compile a new feature on the blog, “Have A Round On Me”.

I’ve done a “links du jour” type post in the past, but I want to create a themed segment that relates to events going on that week. I hope you enjoy!

Sonia Rykiel Reflection

This season there were far too many inspiring shows. Too many to pick out my favorites and share with you.

And anyways, doesn’t every fashion blogger share their top looks, looks that you’ve already seen yourself?

Well, my plan was to save you from being subjected to a fashion week reiteration. But when I saw Sonia Rykiel’s collection from Paris Fashion Week over the weekend, I couldn’t help but delight in her genius.

The show took place in Rykiel’s shop on Boulevard Saint-Germain where she rigged up disco balls and a confetti covered floor for her models to shimmy and shake it down the runway. Nichole Phelps of Style.com dubbed the look “thirties by way of seventies”, and boy was she right. I love the classic cuts and cozy knits bursting with pops of color. The whole thing just looks fun, and I encourage you to take a peek at the entire collection but I have also included a few of my favorites here.

The one thing that struck me the most about the show was how much the production resembled that of a fashion show I helped produce in college dubbed, “Creature”. As part of an undergraduate fashion coalition, each year I helped produce a show to display student work outside of the normal academic platform and in 2007, our chosen theme was Creature.

Avante Garde garments emerged through a thick fog of smoke behind the silhouette of a forest, walking down a runway covered in black mylar confetti (by yours truly)! The mylar’s sheen gave the awesome effect of dirt for the runway, but was a complete and total pain to clean up.

Models complained about slipping and sliding on the confetti covered surface, but we made them to it anyway.

The Creature fashion show is one of the projects I am most proud of from my undergrad career, and it is so flattering and re-affirming to see professionals do very similar work on their shows 2 years later.

Dear Universe,

I am enlisting your help.

After my recent thrifting luck with a certain sequin jacket that has been on my wishlist for a while, I have decided to share a secret wishlist item I have been OBSESSING about recently. That is, a nude patent leather peep toe pump.

Not too much to ask for right? Wrong.

I can’t find the perfect shoe anywhere, and where I can find decent replacements for my dream pump, the prices are simply too far out of my range.

Here is what I am looking for: Size 9. Nude, Beige in color. 4-5 inch heel (preferably stilleto). Patent leather with neutral or statement lining/inner sole.

Below are some examples of my inspiration for this amazing shoe that I WILL FIND! I am just so surprised brands like Aldo and Steve Madden haven’t release their own version of such a simple staple.

I have found a lot of ugly metallic linings, contrast piping, sizes that are too small, and suede shoes… but that’s not what I’m looking for! The nude peep toe elongates your leg and makes even jeans look so chic and dressy.

Argh! These are the things that keep me up at night.

So I am putting it out there, and enlisting my readers and the willful power of the universe to bring my perfect dream shoe to me… or provide me with the funds to purchase any of the following beauties.

FWNY Events: Chictopia Party

As you read in my outfit post, Tuesday night I headed back over to Broadway East for the Chictopia party.

I had heard lots of lovely fashion bloggers were going to make an appearance, so I skipped the other events on my calender to attend. When I arrived the scene was VERY different than the night before.

Same line outside wrapping around the block, but this time I didn’t recognize a single soul. I waited patiently and finally got inside to grab a drink and walk around, only to notice the place was bare!

Groups of people were dinning at tables as if they had ordered dinner, the bartender was ignoring his two patrons (myself included), and a second line had formed at the exit where girls were anxiously waiting to receive their goody bags before jetting out the door. I decided to wait until I finished my drink before trying to grab a goody bag and make an inconspicuous exit (hard to do when you’re 6 ft. tall in heels and wearing sequins).

Then, just as I was about to give up hope and head home, I spotted Jennine outside snapping photos of Susie. I ran out to say hello and was soon introduced to Jeanne.We headed back inside for a drink and before I knew it I was chatting it up with two lovely and super sweet ladies, Nikki and Mel.

From then on the night was a blur. I snapped a few photos, met some lovely bloggers, exchanged business cards, and topped the night off by grabbing a bite with Jennine, Pamela, and Jeannie in the Lower East Side.
