Moving!

I’m moving! …in with my boyfriend. We decided it’s time to take our relationship one step further, and that step just so happens to involve turning his bachelor pad into a cozy home for two.

After months of talking about “taking the plunge”, looking at apartments, and scouring craigslist to sublet my lease, we decided to move into his current apartment. It’s a great two-bedroom in a friendly building with a courtyard, laundry room, and roof access. (So excited for new picture backgrounds!)

But with every new apartment comes a slew of challenges:

Will there be enough closet space? (I don’t think so)

Do I need to get rid of anything? (most likely)

All kinds of design dilemmas cross your mind, but the most important is …the paint colors.

Below are pictures of the kitchen and living room as they are now, empty, bland, and decorated by two bachelors (note the Ritz crackers on the kitchen table). No furniture has been moved in yet (we’ll deal with that later), so please ignore the current set up. Just look at those bare walls begging for color.

Here are the colors we have chosen for the Kitchen, Living Room, and Studio/Home Office (second bedroom).

(Be sure to come back for the after pics to be posted the first week of September!)

We have yet to pick a color for the bedroom though, so I wanted to ask your help. We have a few ideas already, but a third opinion is always welcome. So please share… what color do you think the bedroom should be?

a pretty blue or gray would look great with those colors! good luck painting!

It really depends on the function of the bedroom. Is it going to be a quiet place for a couple to relax? Is it going to be a love den? Is it going to be a sanctuary in the middle of NYC? Is it going to be an “all purpose” room? What kind of bedroom furniture is there? The walls for black plastic lacquer would not be the same for cherry wood Victorian armoire’s.

haha yes, it’s small and going to hold a bed and my closet, vanity, and dresser…. looking for calm, quiet retreat

that is the cleanest bachelor pad i’ve ever seen.

i would love gray in there, although i know jake isn’t a fan…

    celery green

The “studio”/home office is a combination of greens; “corn husk” with “grape leaves” on the accent wall.
Jake was thinking blue, but then we decided it might not go with all the deep earthy tones in the rest of the apartment, so Im pulling for a foggy grey or a sandy taupe color. Something peaceful and relaxing that will make the room looking bigger and brighter than it is.
