You know it’s winter when you can’t tell the difference between 6pm and 6am.

It is so dark when I wake in the morning! And I can’t turn on too many lights for fear of waking a certain slumbering boy, who does not like being woken up by halogen lights at 6am.

Another pesky nuisance of winter is the lack of humidity.

My hair no longer dries in 30 minutes or less. It takes more than an hour to even get my curls to take shape…

I’m going to have to figure out a winter coif that doesn’t require extreme heat. I want my hair to keep growing!

It’s very chilly out today and the grey, white, and black tones seemed to just speak to me this morning. Maybe it’s the result of having to get dressed in the dark. I’ll  have to start setting outfits aside the night before, just to make sure colors and hues match!

I haven’t worn these jeans in a while because they are a bit too thick and heavy for the summer months, but that makes them perfect for autumn!

Also, a little shout out to Indiana over at Adored Austin who just loves wearing non-traditional items as necklaces, this one’s for you! (I prefer this as a necklace over a belt)

Sugar and spice and everything nice.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you with the first tights of Fall. Seriously! I don’t know how I have managed to stay away from wearing tights this long into the season, but this morning there was such a cold snap in the air that bit you to the bone. I nearly froze standing still for photos. (I finally discovered New Yorkers walk so fast to stay warm).

I layered back leather and floral elements to create a a cute juxtaposition in my outfit. It’s still too warm for peacoats, but leather jackets are perfect! I love this bulky sweater / light jacket Fall weather.

There’s just something so yummy about this season, you know what I mean? Okay maybe I’m rambling.

Anyways, I dealt with a similar problem as Mel did yesterday.

I was planning on wearing a long cardi around the office, but know that would look weird under the cropped jacket so I just carried it. Now I realize I never took photos with the cardi on to show how I actually wore the outfit today. But anyways, I’m wearing a long camel colored cardi from Zara.

*My apologies for the squinty “angry” face, I left my sunnies up in the apartment and the morning light was too harsh I guess.

With most of my belongings packed away in boxes, it’s rather hard to decide on an outfit in the morning. I tried to set aside pieces I felt like wearing, and attempted to only pack out of season clothes and pieces I’ve worn in the past week. Alas, getting dressed this morning was still extremely difficult. I fished out this simple skirt (that I’m thinking of hemming at least 2″ inches) and Tee Shirt. I think the cozy, classic simplicity of this outfit goes with my theme of the week: black cotton pieces, glitzy necklaces, simple silhouettes.

Next week, when my new wardrobe is all set up, and I can see all of my shoes, accessories, and dresses before I get dressed, I will be more creative and exciting. I promise.

To make up for yesterday’s lack of photos (due to technical difficulties) I am posting LOTS of photos today, so enjoy!

I wanted something simple today. I dressed up yesterday, and took lots of photos for the “day to night” Weardrobe contest. Guess it just wasn’t meant to be, all those photos crashed my memory card. So I threw on this super comfy Tee and then worked around that to create a professional, work-appropriate look. A blazer, tailored skinny jeans, great booties, and just a touch of gold sparkle bring the Tee-Shirt out of the weekend rotation.

I love these sunglasses because I bought them while on a road-trip in college. I was writing an editorial for a Travel Writing class, so obviously we had to travel somewhere. A friend and I hopped in the car and drove down to Jacksonville, Fl. for the Tall Ships Festival. I was a deckhand on the Schooner Ernestina back in 2000, so the festival is dear to my heart, and I was very excited to be around large ships and crazy pirates. While stopping in at a souvenir shop I found these sunglasses and knew I had to take them home. I think I appropriately dubbed them my “Mary Kate and Ashley” sunnies.

I have to apologize, I didn’t realize so much of my outfit either came from stores that no longer exist (so sad) or that I don’t even know where I got the item. This kimono sleeve jersey sweater has been sitting in my dresser for ever. I think I bought as a cozy thing to throw on for erands or to wear around the house, now if only I could remember where I got it. I got the idea to layer the pieces from an outfit I saw on the train on my comute home last night (I get so much inspiration from people watching).

Anyways, I wrapped the kimono around and fastened this filigree feather broach to hold in place. The broach is from this amazing store called Peddler Jim’s that used to be in City Market Savannah, Ga. It was the best combination of a thrift store, a vintage consignment/antique store, and a flea market. He sold everything from old desks and dressforms to sea-glass and old books. In the back of the store was this nasty bin full of old estate and costume jewelery. You got a bowl and could fill it with whatever you wanted, then Jim would glance at your treasures and call out a number.”Five Dollars”. “Two Dollars”. It was never more than $10 for anything and it was all gorgeous and so worth the disinfecting process after you’d been digging in that bin. I have TONS of finds from this store and lots of ideas for DIY’s in the future… let’s see if I get to them anytime soon.

Also note, until this date I had never been on my roof. I dont know why. I’ve been on plenty of roofs in Brooklyn, just never had a reason to venture up to my own…. and what a view. I don’t think you can see in these pictures but I have a PRIME view of the Empire State building. I guess I’ll need to find more reasons to go up there before I move next month! Watch out for more photos from the roof!

Had a little trouble with my camera this morning and could only save 7 of the photos I took of my outfit. I apologize for not having more photos or detail shots, I hope to figure out the glitch and have the camera fixed by tomorrow morning. But I digress…

This outfit is a mix & match amalgamation of color and style in hopes to get me through the day.  Taking these daily pictures has definitely given me some insight into fit and proportion with an outfit, for instance this skirt is looking a little too long and full.

When I move I plan to do a full re-organization of my closet (and of course I’ll post a step by step here) I’m very excited to look at everything I own, categorize it, and judge it based on fit and style.

It is hot and humid today. One of those days where you can’t bear wearing rayon, polyester, or any kind of fabric with the word “blend” in it. So I went with cotton, and lots of it. A dressy jersey racer-back, an easy breathing shelf bra, and loose boot-cut jeans, what more could you want? I threw on the cardi to cover up some skin and to protect from the AC, but outside and on the train I did not need it.

Don’t know what, or even if, I am doing anything tonight, but I figured this would be versatile enough. Keeping it casual and playing it easy this week. July is just too hot to pile on fancy things.

I know I haven’t taken pictures in a while, but things are slowly getting back to normal. I have officially replaced by computer, and my apartment looks pretty normal as well, so I figured now would be a good time to jump back into it.

I went on a speed shopping spree last night in Soho to find something to wear today. I’m meeting up with a bunch of friends and colleagues from an old internship tonight, and I freaked last minute about not having anything to wear (which is a lie, but any excuse to go shopping is a good one). I was inspired by an outfit I saw on the train and decided I needed to hit to stores. Everyone is having great sales, and I got lots of goodies which I will hopefully be photographing the rest of this week!
